Building Requirements
Providence Building Energy Reporting
Providence’s Building Energy Reporting Ordinance (BERO) requires annual benchmarking. Buildings of 50,000+ sq ft began reporting in 2025; those of 20,000–49,999 sq ft began in 2026.
Benchmarking makes inefficient properties more visible and supports modernization decisions.
BERO is an energy-reporting requirement. Rhode Island’s adopted energy code also shapes qualifying new construction.
Potential Incentives

About these electricity figures
EIA Table 7 reports 2024 revenue per kWh for bundled commercial utility customers, excluding separate third-party supply. The U.S. reference covers all commercial customers and provides context rather than an exact like-for-like comparison. These historical averages differ from current tariffs and individual building bills.
